Expert Warns: Israel's Next War Could Come from West Bank in 2026 (2026)

A chilling prediction: Could Israel face another October 7th? According to Dr. Dan Diker, president of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA), the answer is a sobering possibility. He suggests that a repeat of the October 7th attacks could potentially originate from the Palestinian territories in Judea and Samaria, possibly as early as 2026.

Diker's concerns stem from the significant stockpiles of weapons within these territories, coupled with what he describes as ongoing incitement and indoctrination by the Palestinian Authority. He warns that these factors could, tragically, lead to another devastating event. This is a very serious claim.

During an interview on the ILTV Podcast, Diker outlined his security and geopolitical predictions for 2026. He also highlighted the potential for a large-scale ballistic missile attack from Iran as a major concern. He mentioned that this scenario was a key topic of discussion between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former President Donald Trump during their recent meeting.

According to Diker, a joint attack by the United States and Israel in June 2025 may not have completely neutralized Iran's missile capabilities. He stated that at least 40% of Iran’s missile inventory may have survived. Former President Trump reportedly stated that if Iran rebuilds its ballistic missile program, the US would take action.

However, Diker believes a preemptive strike from Iran is unlikely at this stage, pointing to internal unrest within the country. He suggests that the Iranian regime is aware of Israel's capabilities and is unlikely to escalate the situation directly.

Another major concern for Diker is the potential for a coordinated attack involving air, ground, and sea assaults by multiple adversaries, possibly led by Iran and executed through proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. Despite the damage inflicted on these groups, Diker cautions that they remain active.

He questions why Hamas has not been disarmed, emphasizing their commitment to jihad. He points out that Hamas continues to try to deceive the West to maintain power, with firm control over Gaza. This is an interesting point, and one that is open to interpretation.

Diker explains that this reality is a significant factor in Israel's hesitation to move to Stage Two of Trump's 20-point plan, which involves further troop withdrawals and the implementation of an international stabilization force.

Since October 7th, Diker notes that Israel has adopted a new national defense strategy focused on prevention. Israel will act decisively to neutralize any perceived threats, regardless of their scale. This concept, he says, represents a complete rethinking of Israel's national security approach.

He also stresses that Western leaders must understand the nature of the conflict, which he characterizes as a form of jihad.
