Sultan (2016) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Anupama Chopra Hindustan Times Sultan is an overwrought, overblown, over-stretched sports saga. When it ended, I had moist eyes and a big grin on my face. In wrestling terms, it's an over-sized Salman slam. Rated: B- Jul 7, 2016 Full Review Sultan (2016) | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express It is a full-bodied, fully-earned performance, and Salman Khan aces it. Rated: 3/5 Jul 6, 2016 Full Review Sultan (2016) | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Pradeep Menon Firstpost The worst part is that it pretends to give some sort of empowering message, but all it does is reinforce the glory associated with female sacrifice. Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Sultan (2016) | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Rahul Desai CatchNews An unusually ambitious Khan-daan marred by genre tropes. Jul 20, 2022 Full Review Sultan (2016) | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Rohit Vats Hindustan Times We all know what to expect from such a film, but it's still a lot of fun to see the underdog win. BEING JATIN S One of the best action drama movie Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Back in 2017 I had this weird idea in my mind - why not watch every single Salman Khan film? My 12th class had just ended and there was no one to stop me. And so I began to watch this film when it was coming on TV when my entire family had gone out and only I was at home. I missed a little from the beginning but I later learnt what happened in that part from YouTube. I had only heard that this film is something about wrestling/MMA, so I decided to give it a try.The film is a bit illogical, of course, because it's a Salman Khan film. The entire purpose is to showcase how cool Bhai is. So I'm not gonna cherrypick all the logical parts from the film like why a retired wrestler seems to be a better option than the current mixed martial artists especially when he is no longer in his prime, or why he is being considered a "Romeo Wrestler" just because of having a wife who abandoned him (even though I'm 99% sure most mixed martial artists have a wife/girlfriend). I'm just gonna judge it on the basis of what it is - a Bollywood masala film. The story feels very satisfying to watch overall. It's like the ASMR of all Bollywood sports films. A loner man deciding to become a wrestler to prove Arfa he isn't lazy, then becoming better than her, then winning Olympics (I'm sorry, I can't say this one without laughing), then having everything destroyed. He joins MMA, wins and gets his wife. The end. I mean, it's a Salman Khan film. What more could we expect? At least the music is good, the dialogues are memorable and the acting is above average.Initially I had given it a better rating since I had never watched good films before, and also because I was into Salman Khan back then, but now I've matured enough to realise how stupid it used to be. It's the kind of films only Salman Khan fans / TikTok audience / T-Series subscribers will like. If you're literate, it's not for you. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review arun s Delightful and surprisingly very engaging from start to finish. However this film was like a patriarchal take on boxing going by the way the film moved on towards the end. The men go into the ring whenever they want to but woman have to think about kitchen and childbirth. The hero is finally largehearted to allow Arfa into the ring and that brings some sweetness. Anushka Sharma had a great role and acted well but it felt that she was pushed into the background as the story moved towards Sultan and his life. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Non-existent acting talent by the male lead. Undigestible plot twists. Just a regular over glorifying movie for an actor rather than for the audience Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member One Of The Best Bollywood Sport Drama Film.
